NANGOKUSHO (ode to the southern lands of Japan) 南国頌 - Atsushi Fujiwara se livre à une exploration photographique dans le Sud du Japon à Kagoshima et Okinawa, suivant les traces de son grand-père qui fut poète. 20133(Sokyusha, Japon, 2013).

3 (Sokyusha, Japon, 2014).

20153 (Sokyusha, Japon, 2015).

(Sokyusha, Japon, 2017).

With his exhibition “A look into his publications” Atsushi takes us thru his books, where we find his personal soul searching.

NANGOKUSHO (ode to the southern lands of Japan) 南国頌 a search to find the sceneries of his grandfather’s poetry by exploring the southern lands of Japan, Kagoshima and Okinawa. Today, Kagoshima and Okinawa have dramatically changed from what his grandfather saw and there is nothing remaining of that now. Atsushi undertook to pursue sceneries that no longet exist. (SOKYUSHA / 2013 March)

BUTTERFLY HAD A DREAM 蝶の見た夢 the photographs focus on the daily life of a young woman (a Japanese bondage master in Shinjuku) and her trips to her mother’s land “Miyakojima” to visit her small kids and search for her late father’s soul. (SOKYUSHA / 2014 March)

POET ISLAND 詩人の島 a reencounter with a hostile place that impacted him as a kid when he visited his uncle who worked in Nagashima Island, his photos captured the natural untouched beauty of the island and the sense of anguish from the emptiness of the leprosarium (the Aiseien Sanatorium) where the Japanese pre-war poet Akashi Kaijin was held in confinement. (SOKYUSHA / 2015 March)

SEMIMARU 蝉丸 - Shiga Prefecture the place that Atsushi refers as his home, Shiga was his hometown until his mid-twenties, his photographs capture the notion of home, visually monotonous neighborhoods with factories, schools and apartment buildings, yet he reaches the peaceful shores of lake Biwa crossing thru creaks, shinto shrines and mountain roads as if taking himself home. (SOKYUSHA / 2017 May)
